Attaching the umbilical cord

The umbilical cord is a consumable. After each scenario, it must be disposed of and replaced with a new one.

Before starting, make sure to turn off spontaneous breathing (RR=0).

  1. Make sure the umbilical cord port is correctly positioned.

    CAUTION

Inserting the umbilical cord at the wrong angle may damage both the connector and the port on the simulator.

  2. Align the umbilical cord connector with the umbilical cord port on the simulator.

The umbilical cord appears on the 3D Paul animation.

  4. To remove the remaining umbilical stump after a cut during training rotate the stump anti-clockwise to unlock it.

NOTE

This procedure is the same for the belly button.

CAUTION

Do not introduce fluids into the umbilical cord, as this may damage the components inside Paul. If this occurs, turn off Paul immediately, disconnect from the power supply and do not power on again. Contact Laerdal Support.
